What does it mean to be a Graphic Designer?

Do you know what it means to be a graphic designer? I bet you have little or no idea about what this entails. Graphic designing is much more than just knowing how to use Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw or any other graphic software as the case may be.

You don't necessarily need to have artistic knowledge to become a graphic designer but that can be an added advantage. You don't need a college degree to be a graphic designer. You don't need a fancy looking laptop to be a graphic designer, just any PC with the right properties/specs will do.
Seems I'm beating around the bush right? OK, long story short... let's cut straight to the chase.

Who Is a Graphic Designer
A graphic designer is one who occupies an intensely collaborative role. A designer is critical to almost every organization. Designers’ roles vary, but they are always tasked with maintaining brand consistency and voice, and creating effective and elegant graphic solutions. Anyone can be a graphic designer, but not everyone can master the art and be good at it.

A graphic designer is a visual communicator. We are problem solvers -We are given a brief about a problem and we analyze the information to create a solution.

Being a graphic designer is not an easy job as most people will think. I've had clients who say "its an easy job, it'll only take a minute". -aaaaaaargh, that's annoying you know.

We tend to think that designers are the same with artists. But both have their differences. An artist creates to inspire, and share their creativity with the rest of the world. A designer on the other hand creates to communicate, we are visual-thinkers, and we have that joy of creating brands. We use any medium to create our thoughts, solve problems, get jobs done by combining shapes, colors, fonts etc.
